Coaching for attorneys, leaders, and organizations navigating critical points of growth and transition
Career satisfaction starts with clarity around who you are, what motivates you, and the values you want to lead from.
When attorneys and leaders feel disconnected from their work, it’s rarely a capability issue. It’s almost always an alignment issue.
At Apex Coaching, we help you define (or redefine) the elements that shape your professional identity: your strengths, your motivators, your values, and the environments where you operate at your best. That insight becomes the foundation for everything else, and you can use it to build a more intentional and thoughtful career roadmap.
Hi, I’m Khara.
I’m a career and leadership coach for attorneys and other corporate professionals navigating pivotal career moments.
My approach combines two decades inside the legal industry with a deep commitment to helping people build careers that reflect their strengths, values, and personal goals. My journey toward this work started with my own career in law and the surprising lessons I learned along the way.
I began my career as an attorney, graduating from Cornell Law School, passing two bar exams, and spending three years in BigLaw. But even with all that investment, I realized something I didn’t expect: the traditional practice of law wasn’t my long-term path. I had what many consider a dream job, but it just didn’t feel right for me.
Around that same time, my personal life shifted in a major way. At 26, I lost my mother and became the legal guardian of my 14-year-old brother. Overnight, everything in my world changed. My priorities looked different, and so did my sense of what I wanted from my career.
Becoming a parent later on only strengthened that resolve. Fulfillment at work mattered not just for me, but for the life I was building outside of work. I began to see how essential it is to pursue work that genuinely feels meaningful to you. Today, that perspective is a core part of my coaching: a healthy career is one that is built around who you are, your strengths, and what matters most to you.
With the guidance of a few key mentors, I transitioned into Attorney Development, a move that let me use my legal background in a way that best aligned with my strengths and interests. From there, my career evolved into roles in professional development, talent, performance management, training, and coaching.
Over the years, I’ve worked closely with attorneys at every stage — from new associates to senior leaders — helping them grow, develop, and advance in complex, high-pressure environments. Working within firms gave me a deep understanding of the attorney experience and how legal organizations operate. It also taught me how lawyers think, perform, and lead — insights that shape every aspect of my coaching today.
Why I Founded Apex Coaching
After 3 years spent launching and leading the Coaching and Career Development Department at a large law firm, I realized something important about alignment: it isn’t fixed. As your needs, interests, and life circumstances evolve, what feels aligned can change too. Sometimes that means pursuing a new role; other times it means growing confidently right where you are. The work is always about finding the right fit guided by your goals, not a fixed plan.
My own path made it clear that I wanted to support clients more holistically and across a wider range of settings. This is how Apex Coaching was born.
Running my own practice gives me the flexibility to:
Coach attorneys and leaders across organizations, industries, practice areas, and stages of career
Combine career strategy, leadership development, professional skill-building, and values alignment in one integrated approach
Create coaching programs and workshops tailored directly to client needs
Support clients through career pivots, leadership growth, burnout prevention, confidence building, and complex decision-making
Develop tools and frameworks that evolve as the legal profession and workplace expectations shift
Apex Coaching exists to help attorneys and professionals think clearly, grow intentionally, and build careers that feel aligned with who they are and how they want to live and lead.
